To Pilate

Jewish leaders gather and decide to send Jesus to Pilate.

All 4 gospels time this event as in the morning. Timed here at 6:00 AM, first hour after sunrise.

John (P)

Then the Jews led Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness the Jews did not enter the palace; they wanted to be able to eat the Passover. (John 18:28 NIV)

Matthew (P)

Early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people came to the decision to put Jesus to death. (Matthew 27:1 NIV)

Mark (P)

Very early in the morning, the chief priests, with the elders, the teachers of the law and the whole Sanhedrin, reached a decision. They bound Jesus, led him away and handed him over to Pilate. (Mark 15:1 NIV)

Luke (P)

At daybreak the council of the elders of the people, both the chief priests and teachers of the law, met together, and Jesus was led before them. (Luke 22:66 NIV)

Matthew (P)

They bound him, led him away and handed him over to Pilate, the governor. (Matthew 27:2 NIV)

Luke (P)

"If you are the Christ," they said, "tell us." Jesus answered, "If I tell you, you will not believe me, and if I asked you, you would not answer. But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God." They all asked, "Are you then the Son of God?" He replied, "You are right in saying I am." Then they said, "Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from his own lips." (Luke 22:67-71 NIV)
Then the whole assembly rose and led him off to Pilate. (Luke 23:1 NIV)

Judas returns 30 pieces of Silver

Matthew (P)

When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty silver coins to the chief priests and the elders. "I have sinned," he said, "for I have betrayed innocent blood." "What is that to us?" they replied. "That's your responsibility." So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself. The chief priests picked up the coins and said, "It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money." So they decided to use the money to buy the potter's field as a burial place for foreigners. That is why it has been called the Field of Blood to this day. Then what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled: "They took the thirty silver coins, the price set on him by the people of Israel, and they used them to buy the potter's field, as the Lord commanded me." (Matthew 27:3-10 NIV)
