President Obama, vacationing in Hawaii, began to activate his otherwise vacationing heads of security related departments. It had finally dawned on everyone that the Christmas Day bombing of a flight into Detroit had narrowly risked destruction.
This Psalm includes references to the sun and moon which are the basis for modern calendars. This is seen in the associated Exodus Plague Date.

The security apparatus of the United States government was slowly coming to grips with the near-destruction of flight 253 inbound to Detroit on Christmas day. Obama himself had been mostly oblivious, vacationing as he was in Hawaii. Nobody seemed to realize how messed up the system was.
The headline on this particular day was mild, with various blog posts out of the White House that the Christmas Day bombing of a flight into Detroit was saved by a fluke. A nearby passenger had the clarity of mind to nearly single handedly stop the bomber from continuing to detonate himself. The system had not worked, dispite what they said.
Nothing in the security apparatus of the US Government had been able to stop the bomber from flying. Even though the bombers father had essentially told the US government that this man was going to do this.
Every single verse in the Psalm ends with the phrase "his (God's) mercy endures forever."
The saving of that flight, and the many lives that would have been lost, is the most obvious example in the headlines in many months. The bomb should have detonated. There did not need to be someone sitting near by, and so on. His mercy endures forever.
