Curses a Fig Tree

On the way in on the second morning Jesus cursed the fig tree. The tree would come up again in further parables.

Mark (P)

42 Mark 11:12
12And the next day, when they went out of Bethany, he became hungry.

42 Mark 11:13-14
13And he saw a fig tree in the distance which had leaves on it. So he came to it, to see if he could find anything on it; and when he came, he found nothing on it except leaves; for it was not yet time for the figs.
14And he said to it, From now and forever, let no man eat of your fruit. And his disciples heard it.

Day/Year Passion Replay

The surprising headline of the day was US President Barack Obama's announcement that he was ending a US plan to install European wide missile defense in the Czech Republic and Poland.

His stated reasons included cost and the changing threat from Iran. Europeans were generally astonished.

Matches

The leafy canopy of a tree is a match to the canopy envisioned by missile defense. This is a match.

The halting of the project is a match to the way Jesus halted the fig tree from producing fruit.

The public announcement, with the European response is a match to the comment that the disciples heard of what Jesus had done.
